ich würde nicht leben, hätte mir nicht vor 25 jahren eine frau ihre liebe geschenkt. ich werde die nächsten 25 jahre nicht ohne die liebe einer frau überleben.

das ist der titel einer cd, die ein paar schöne parallelen zu mir hat: ihr titel ist mein lied, das ich seit mehreren wochen singe, weine, lache, murmle. die worte stehen für eine melodie, die wie ein ohrwurm mein gehirn infiltriert hat und meine gedanke nicht loslässt.

die gruppe, die das stück spielt, heisst HAL 9000, in anlehnung an stanley kubricks "2001: a space odyssey". HALs bild prangt seit ein paar tagen bei mir auf dem desktop, ich werde überwacht in guter george-orwell-manier.

doch HAL ist nicht der grund den text, den ich hier schreibe.

ich frage mich, warum ist das leben eine last geworden? was wiegt denn so schwer, dass es ein leben sinnlos erscheinen lässt?

am morgen, wenn der wecker geht, oder wenn am mittag die sonne aufs kissen scheint, ist mir kalt. nicht dass die zimmertemparatur die falsche wäre. es fehlt die körperwärme, das warme sanfte gefühl von nackter haut. und doch ist das bett das kuschligste, was mir geblieben ist.

ich habe keine antrieb, aus dem bett zu steigen, denn es wartet niemand auf mich. es freut sich niemand auf eine umarmung oder einen kuss von mir. es macht keinen unterschied, ob ich liegenbleibe, oder nicht. es wird niemand wissen wollen, wie mein tag war, also gibt es keinen grund, ihn zu beginnen.

eigentlich hatte ich früher mal eine ... vergessen wir's.

yesterday i received my new ibook 12'' 1.2ghz 768mb 60gb, airport ready. but it seemed that my airport connectivity wasn't terrrific, in fact it was so poor i thought about calling apple and asking for a replacement computer.

i opened the ibook, i pulled the card out, i put i back in again, nothing changed. but then, rather by chance i happened to have another ibook with airport card side by side with my new one. and i noticed, that the plug of the antenna didn't fit in the new one as it did in the old.

in the new ibook, the ring of the plug was visible as much as the grey boarder of the airport extreme card; whereas in the other ibook it was barely visible (compare the image attached.)

i then tried to plug it all the way in, but it was too tiny and too much hidden to manipulate it with great force. so i took the card out where it would be easier to handle. like this, i could really press precisely on the appropriate parts. i was afraid to break something, because i really had to press hard, but then it gave in and fitted the same way as you can see in the picture on the right hand side.

i am often not in the same place where my server is located, but i would like to check the activity also at distance.

mlnet can be controlled through a telnet interface which usually is invoked with the command telnet localhost 4000. as default setting, only the localhost has admin access to the machine.

given you have an account at dyndns.org , you can reach your server with the command telnet myserver.dyndns.org 4000 after executing the following commands:

1. telnet localhost 4000
   
2. add_user admin mypassword
   
3. set allowed_ips 255.255.255.255

this will cause any ip to have access to your mlnet telnet interface
but they will not have rights to view or modify any settings of your mlnet
unless they login with

the solution which i documented last time worked, but it did not work well. it seemed to me, that it did kill & restart mlnet much too often, so that my downloads did barely advance.

in search of a new solution, i returned to the forum page where i read first about the bug. it seemed that someone has written a very helpful script, which takes the task of checking the open file descriptors and, only if they exceed a certain limit, kill and restart mlnet.

but, according to the last entry in the discussion thread, all this is not necessary anymore: the newer version (i.e. version 2.5.16u-2) fixes this bug and is available to download.

so far i haven't installed nor tested this version, but as there are no more comments in the thread i can assume that the problem is solved with the newer version.
