one more underestimated thing

yesterdays apple event entitled "one more thing" has brought a new imac, a new video-enabled ipod 5th generation and the corresponding new version of itunes. so finally the ipod can play your videos, a functionality that is long overdue and state-of-the-art in other pocket multimedia devices.

(allow me a cultural minute: as we know apple, they wouldn't integrate such a functionality in a device without the corresponding environment. itunes provides your videopod with tv shows so you don't have to rip dvds illegally; at least in the united states.)

but that is not actually my point. the above to paragraphs represent average news on apple/mac news websites. but in my eyes, they missed the point. the real point is: apple has now every technology available to make the digital multimedia hub for your living room in a mac.

and to me, the missing piece of the puzzle until now was: "how is an average user going to interact with this system?"

and this piece i have now found in frontrow. and not only the mac and its media content becomes available, but also the ipod. with an interface simpler than ever dreamt of. if there is anything i could still whish for, a click wheel on frontrow would make it perfect.

but you should never leave no room for future improvements, so lets rejoice for the clickwheel frontrow...

now they have the whole puzzle for the multimedia hub together. why are they not yet releasing a device combining all the functionality? in my eyes, apple has learned one thing during its history: you don't have to be first, to succeed. but you have to be the best. and therefore apple will not release a digital multimedia hub until it is perfect, and the audience is ready for it.
