"The Apple iPhone runs on an ARM architecture CPU" I read on Apple news sites. I had never heard of this architecture and went to wikipedia.org/ARM_architecture to find some very interesting facts:

  • ARM stands for "Advanced RISC Machine" which is the name of the company developing the architecture
OS X was running on RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) architecture before the switch to Intels CISC (Complex …)

  • The first usable architecture, the ARMv2, was developed in 1985
    pretty old stuff *cough*

  • ARMv3 powered Apples Newton!
All the people speculating about a redesign of the Apple Newton were very right too

  • ARMv4T runs the iPod and the Nintendo DS
Apples software developers already knew the platform

  • ARMv5TE runs various Mobile Phones, Palms, SmartPhones and Mobile Gaming Consoles

  • ARMv6 runs the Zune and - what an irony - the iPhone!
I bet M$' Bill G. wants to lynch his product developers *biggrin*

I am looking forward to where this (according to Apple) third revolutionary product leads the Industry. And I am certainly longing to see the iPhone V2 or later providing laptop computing possibilities in your pocket!
